On October 30th, Lumentum announced the acquisition of Hong Kong optical module manufacturer Cloud Light for $750 million (approximately RMB 5.48 billion), with the aim of expanding its influence in cloud data centers and network infrastructure.

It is understood that Cloud Light is a Hong Kong company that provides various optical product solutions, mainly focusing on designing and manufacturing advanced optical modules for automotive sensors and data center interconnection applications. In the past 12 months, almost all of the company's $200 million in revenue came from sales of 400G or higher speed transceivers.

After the announcement of the acquisition, Lumentum's stock price soared by 14%, alleviating the 22% decline earlier this year.

At present, the acquisition transaction has been approved by the board of directors and shareholders of two companies. Through the acquisition, Cloud Light's optical transceiver products will serve as a supplement to Lumentum's existing data center transceiver integration component product portfolio.

Lumentum predicts that this will give it the opportunity to expand its cloud data center business more than fivefold compared to before, expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 30%, and the business scale is expected to exceed $10 billion (approximately 73.1 billion RMB) by 2028.

Last week, Microsoft announced that its cloud division's first quarter performance exceeded Wall Street expectations, highlighting the strong demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence in the industry.
