On May 20th, the Royal Society announced on its official website that over 90 scientists who have made outstanding contributions to scientific research have been newly elected as Fellow of The Royal Society (FRS). Yang Xueming, an academician of the CAS Member and chief director of the Shenzhen Free Electron Laser Device, was newly elected as a foreign academician of the Royal Society of England.

Academician Yang Xueming is an internationally renowned physical chemist who focuses on using advanced laser spectroscopy technology to conduct in-depth research on the kinetic processes of chemical reactions. He is committed to developing high-resolution laser detection technology and advanced molecular beam technology for capturing and analyzing micro dynamic behaviors and energy transfer processes between molecules in chemical reactions. His research not only promoted a deeper understanding of chemical reaction mechanisms, but also had a profound impact on multiple fields such as atmospheric chemistry, interstellar chemistry, and free electron laser light sources.

The Shenzhen Superconducting Soft X-ray Free Electron Laser, S ³ FEL, led by Academician Yang Xueming, is a major technological infrastructure that will become the world's first superconducting medium energy free electron laser device with a repetition rate of one million hertz. As the overall commander of the project, Academician Yang Xueming leads this internationally advanced scientific engineering with his profound expertise and rich experience in the field of free electron lasers.

Sir Adrian Smith, President of the Royal Society, said, "I am delighted to welcome the latest batch of outstanding researchers to the ranks of Royal Society members. Their achievements demonstrate the highest level of scientific exploration - from fundamental discoveries to research on the practical impact across health, technology, and policy fields, from addressing global health challenges to redefining the potential of artificial intelligence for human civilization. These works confirm the power of curiosity driven scientific innovation.

The official website of the Royal Society of England

The Royal Society of England was founded in 1660 and is the highest academic institution in the UK, as well as the oldest and uninterrupted scientific society in the world. The selection of Royal Society fellows aims to recognize the valuable contributions made by the elected individuals as leaders in their respective fields to scientific research. There are currently over 1800 academicians, including more than 80 Nobel laureates. Renowned scientists such as Newton, Faraday, Darwin, Maxwell, Einstein, Dirac, and the discoverers of the double helix structure of DNA, Watson and Crick, are all members of the Royal Society of England.

Archaeologists have long wondered why the people of Anglo Saxon England began using more silver coins and fewer gold coins between 660 and 750 AD. Researchers in Europe now say they have developed a method to help find the answer. This technology combines laser ablation with traditional trace element analysis to match the isotopic abundance of silver bars in coins with known sources of metal ores ...
