: Multi-pass cutting with CCD camera registration + U-axis feed exceeding Y work area (RDV844XS(EC), RDWorks V8)

Ascory

Hi everyone, we have a specific use case we’d like to try with our laser, but we aren't getting good results.

Controller: RDV844XS(EC), Camera: SV300-New CCD, Software: RDWorks V8

Machine setup:

Work area: X=1630mm, Y=1000mm, U-axis: unlimited feed (roll material)

Material: printed fabric from roll, repeating pattern, cutting pieces of 800mm (X) × 1200mm (Y)

4 registration marks (crosses) printed in the lower portion of each repeat, used for camera-based position correction due to print/material slip

Problem:

Each cut piece (1200mm in Y) exceeds our Y work area (1000mm). Without camera/mark correction, we successfully use a workflow of: cut lower section → U-axis feed → cut upper section (different layer/content) → U-axis feed to next repeat, all controlled via layer settings and "Repeat process" in our job file. This works reliably.

However, when we add the 4-point camera mark correction (using the "Mark point positioning" window in RDWorks), the mark scan + cut process appears to run as an isolated/exclusive workflow that blocks our normal Start button and does not respect our existing two-layer + U-axis-feed logic. The "Repeat process" / "Feed length" settings inside the Mark window's "Other setting" seem designed for repeating identical content, not for advancing between two different layers in a single piece.

Question:

What is the recommended/supported way to combine:

A one-time camera mark scan (4-point correction) at the start of each repeat

Cutting a Y-area larger than the machine's Y work range, requiring a U-axis feed mid-piece between two different layers

Fully automated operation across ~2000m of roll material per production run (no manual intervention between sub-cuts)

Is there a way to perform the mark scan/correction once, then hand control back to a standard multi-layer job with U-axis feed commands between layers — without re-triggering a new mark scan? Or is there a supported method for defining a job with mark correction + multi-pass Y-area splitting + automated U-feed in one continuous automated cycle?

Any example workflow, parameter file, or G-code/script approach would be very helpful.

  • Try using Mark point super format processing and setting up loop feeding. I hope this solution can help you.
