Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd announced today the launch of the industry's first Dove 800 850G digital signal processor IC, which has been optimized for linear receiving optical devices and is also known as semi retiming linear optical devices in the industry. In LRO transceivers or active optical cables, only the transmission path from the electrical input to the output of the optical path includes DSP for signal timing and equalization. Dove 850 is a unidirectional 8 x 112 Gb/s DSP designed specifically for this LRO architecture.

With the rapid growth of artificial intelligence deployment in large-scale data centers, high-speed optical transceivers and AOCs are crucial for connecting thousands of GPUs. Given the enormous volume of these optical components, improving energy efficiency is crucial. Dove 850 meets this requirement while achieving powerful system performance and additional benefits of cost reduction.

Chris Collins, Vice President of Sales and Optical Product Marketing at Credo, said, "Dove 850 can reduce DSP power consumption by up to 50%, optimize costs, and provide customers with easy-to-use, powerful, and interoperable solutions." Our chief transceiver and ultra large scale customers recognize the value of this solution, and we have delivered Dove 850 samples and evaluation boards to meet market demand. "

Transceiver suppliers can further optimize the module cost of Dove 850 by using various optical devices, including VCSEL, silicon photonics, EML, or thin film lithium niobate, depending on application requirements.

The Dove 850 based optical transceiver aims to alleviate the deployment burden on system operators by promoting IEEE compliant optical transmission signaling and eliminating manual, per port tuning, thereby addressing the inherent weaknesses of linear pluggable optical implementation. The result is a decrease in error rate, an increase in sensitivity, a reduction in performance changes, and an improvement in recovery ability for different switch ASICs, PCB wiring, optical components, and environmental conditions.

"Over the past year, LPO has been a hot topic as the industry is seeking ways to reduce data center power consumption. However, due to technological limitations such as interoperability, link accountability, and troubleshooting capabilities, customer enthusiasm has been suppressed, resulting in our prediction of LPO being less than 10% of the 800GbE market," said Scott Wilkinson, Chief Analyst for Optics at Cignal AI. Credo's Dove 850 is a semi retiming solution that addresses these limitations, consumes less power than traditional optical devices, and provides a clear path to 224G for 1.6Tb/s operation. This solution will greatly expand the market for low-power 800GbE solutions, far exceeding LPO.

Each channel of Dove 850 has an independent PLL to support branching applications, host interfaces that comply with OIF CEI-112G-MR standards, and numerous integrated diagnostic functions, which can accelerate product launch time and assist in system debugging.
