Laser runs but doesn’t fire

2023-07-05Was the dot Blue? If so, that’s the laser. The next step is to check the Speed and Power settings in the Cuts / Layers window.

: The bottom arrow points at a speed in mm/minute, which is a setting that’s important and often overlooked. What Speed and percent power are you attempting to work with? Tell us some more about the project, are you cutting or engraving, and what material? Occasionally the Laser output isn’t scaled properly. The laser is usually looking for a number between zero and the Machine Setting assigned to $30. Click Edit, Machine Settings, and make a mental note of what $30 is.

: Common numbers are 255, 1000 and 10,000. There’s no need to change anything here so you can click OK or Cancel or the X in the top right corner. To command the laser, LightBurn calls out a number between zero and S-Value max in Device settings. Click Edit, click Device Settings and you’ll see a window that looks like this: If that S-Value max isn’t the same as the number assigned to $30, enter the correct number into the box for S-value max and carefully click OK so the change is made. It’s usually one of those two things. I hope we’ve solved it!

05-10If your laser runs but doesn't fire, it could be related to several potential issues within your Laser DMK www.laserdmk.com system. One common cause is an issue with the laser’s triggering mechanism or power supply. If the laser is receiving power but not firing, the trigger signal might not be reaching the laser module. This could be due to a fault in the control circuit, misconfigured settings, or a malfunction in the firing system. Another possibility is a fault in the interlock system or safety sensors, which might prevent firing to ensure safe operation. To troubleshoot, first check the laser’s settings in the control software to ensure that all parameters (e.g., pulse duration, power, frequency) are correctly configured. Next, inspect the laser’s power supply and wiring connections, ensuring that all components are properly connected and functional. If these seem fine, it may be worth contacting **LaserDMK** support to check for any specific known issues with your model or to verify that the firing circuit or trigger system is operating correctly.
