How do you get smooth lines?

Make sure you eliminate as much mechanical backlash from the X-axis. Check that the pinion gear is properly secured to the stepper motor. Check belt tension.
Once you’ve done everything possible on the mechanical side, eliminate further scanning offset by configuring an adjustment in Edit->Device Settings.
