Recently, nLIGHT, a leading company in the fields of fiber optics and semiconductor lasers, announced the launch of two new laser technologies at The Battery Show North America: WELDForm and Automatic Parameter Adjustment (APT), aimed at meeting the dynamic needs of advanced battery manufacturing customers.

In order to provide high-quality laser welding technology to the rapidly growing electric vehicle market, Ennai has developed a series of products that support the improvement of welding quality and quality assurance, which is crucial for the successful manufacturing of batteries and battery systems:
WELDForm provides melt pool stabilization function, reduces spatter and defects in laser welding, and achieves consistent welding depth and weld contour control, meeting high-performance welding requirements.

APT is an artificial intelligence based solution that utilizes nLIGHT Plasmo's process observation technology to automatically develop first-time and correct system settings for detecting welding defects, thereby saving a significant amount of time and cost.

NLIGHT will showcase these products at booth 3438 at the North American Battery Show held from October 7th to 10th at Huntington Place in Detroit, Michigan.

According to Ennai's financial report released in August this year, the company achieved revenue of $50.5 million in the second quarter of 2024, a year-on-year decrease of 5.2%. Among them, the precision machining field achieved a revenue of 10.2 million US dollars, accounting for 20% of the total revenue, a year-on-year decrease of 16%.

In the first half of 2024, the revenue achieved was $95.04 million, a year-on-year decrease of 11%; The GAAP net loss for the first half of the year was $25.5 million (equivalent to RMB 182 million), an increase of 54% year-on-year, indicating a greater magnitude of the loss.

In the field of laser welding, which has a relatively small business share, Ennai focuses on the electric vehicle and battery markets, and has launched three new products in the first half of the year:

APT, An automatic parameter adjustment software for the process monitoring market. This product shortens the time required to implement process monitoring solutions on welding production lines;

WELDform, By combining spatial and temporal control to optimize the melt pool, harmful defects such as splashing and porosity are reduced;

ProcessGuard, Integrating process monitoring functionality into the laser itself further simplifies integration with factory production lines, improves reliability, and reduces costs. It is worth mentioning that ProcessGuard is the first product to fully integrate Ennai laser technology and Plasmo process monitoring technology.
