Simplified Air Assist System for Ortur Master 2 Laser Engraver

This is a straightforward, low-cost air assist system designed specifically for the 20W Ortur Master 2 laser engraver. The setup uses a simple medical needle, an aquarium silicone hose (4mm inner diameter, 5.5–6mm outer), and a 3D-printed mount secured with a 10mm M3 screw. The system directs a stream of air precisely to the focal point at 55mm, matching the machine's G2 lens focal distance. The lower surface of the mount aligns with the laser's aluminum block border to achieve proper focus. Dimensions are carefully chosen so the machine can home without any obstructions, requiring no modifications to the engraver. The lightweight, flexible aquarium hose adds no resistance during movement and can be secured to existing cables with zip ties or tape. The mount accommodates focal heights between 50 and 55mm without bending the needle. Needles are readily available at any pharmacy, and nozzle size varies depending on the needle installed. Longer needles are preferred as they focus the air stream exactly where the laser hits the surface. This system works with any low-power compressor; airflow and pressure depend on the needle's hole diameter. The needle tip can be cut straight, at an angle, or left pointed, altering the shape of the air jet. The distance to the workpiece can also be adjusted. Needles are inexpensive, reliable, and easy to replace. Please handle with care as the needle is sharp and can cause injury. The design is intended for practical, everyday use to improve cutting and engraving quality by clearing debris and reducing smoke.
