Modify basic shapes, such as remove a section of a line

Using a basic rectangle as an example, how can I remove part of one of the lines; i.e., cut an opening in the side. Also can I drag a corner to change either the shape of the rectangle or make one of the walls go at an angle?

      Couple of different ways. I would probably use the node edit tool. Click on triangle then right click and convert to path, then over to left for node edit tool. You can insert nodes and delete line in between.
