  • To connect a CO₂ laser to your PC over WiFi, the controller must support networking, like a Ruida with an Ethernet port. You simply plug the laser into your router with a network cable, connect your PC to the same router over WiFi, and add the machine in your software using its IP address. Setting a static IP is recommended for stability. If your machine only has USB, it can’t connect directly over WiFi—you’ll need a network adapter device or a controller that supports Ethernet.

  • Industrial carbon dioxide lasers are rarely directly connected to PCs via WiFi, mainly for the following reasons:
1.High real-time requirement: Laser processing requires millisecond-level command response, and WiFi's latency and jitter cannot meet the reliability requirements of industrial control.
2.Anti-interference requirement: Electromagnetic interference is severe in industrial environments, and wired connections (such as Ethernet and RS-485) are more stable than wireless ones.
3.Different communication protocols: Laser machines use motion control protocols (such as G-code) rather than printing protocols.
The mainstream connection schemes are as follows:
1.Ethernet (recommended): Most modern laser machines are equipped with an RJ45 Ethernet interface. Simply connect the laser machine to your local area network router using a network cable, and then connect to it on your PC by entering the laser machine's IP address through the laser control software. This is the closest wired solution to a "WiFi" experience, offering stability and high speed. ‌
2.USB Connection: Connect the laser machine directly to the PC via a USB cable. This is the simplest and most compatible solution, but the cable length is limited.
3.Serial port connection (RS-232/RS-485): Use a USB to RS-485 converter to connect the serial port of the laser machine to the USB port of the PC. It is necessary to install the corresponding driver on the PC and select the correct COM port in the software.
