Difficulty with between Lightburn and a RDC6442S-B

9Vmv3MXB

I have a new Co2 laser (upgraded from an LED).

I have it all up and using latest version of Lightburn to operate the laser with an RDC6442S-B.

It operated OK for about 20 minutes and then problems.

Using lightburn the machine will follow the pattern programmed, but no laser operating.

It has been doing this now for about 5-6 weeks. The manufacturer of the machine has very slow support (about 3 day turn around on each request, so about 2 a week). After chasing power supply issues. Measuring signals with my DMM and Digital Oscillicope I have determined the issue is not the power supply ( I am an electronics engineer and have all the tools).

A suggestion was made today via MW lasers to contact an expert, which has been of great help. He suggested that I test the controller using RDworks V8. The result is that the machine operates as expected with RDworks and not Lightburn. I have swapped back and fourth a few time and get the same result, works with RDworks but not Lightburn.

My assumption is there is a firmware and or software issue between lightburn and the RDC6442S.

Has anyone had a similar experence and posiably have a fix. I have spent 6 months learning lightburn and like how it drove my LED laser. So, I would like to continue using Lightburn.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Ken M.

  • The problem is likely due to a compatibility issue between the RDC6442S-B controller and LightBurn software. RDworks V8, being a product developed by Ruida (the same company that developed the RDC6442S-B), has better compatibility and works correctly.
