Laser not cutting in same place again after power down

Hi, unsure if this is hardware or software issue but I am finding that after engraving or cutting succesfully and then powering off the machine, the next time I power on and try to engrave or cut the same files without moving the machine at all, the location is off sometimes by 1mm or even up to 3mm or 4mm. This means I am wasting wood most days and its starting to make me doubt either the Ortur machine or lightburn.

When I first got the machine I was using the mobile application and this worked fine, switching over to lightburn seemed the obvious choice and thats when even getting the machine to register was a pain. Now I am on Mac so perhaps this is root of most of the issues, first the drivers didnt recognise the machine, the settings all off and it wasnt cutting even at slow speeds. After getting it to finally show as the correct device it seemed to be fine however now this issue seems to just make the machine pretty difficult to justify using.

I find that I can tell the machine to cut 3 squares for example, it cuts the first one then the other 2 it does the motion but no laser fires. So then I have to go through and repeat the 2 that didnt again and this time it does the 1st one fine and then the 2nd still doesnt cut.

So I am wondering if this sounds like software or a hardware issue. Ive checked the bsics, the machine isnt obstructed, the rails are clear and belts are tight.

Any advice would be welcome as Im slightly frustrated at this point.
