The SCALA 3 LiDAR (Laser Detection and Ranging System), the third generation LiDAR scanner from Valeo, won the "Vehicle Technology and Advanced Mobile Mobility" Innovation Award at the 2024 CES Consumer Electronics Exhibition.

The first and second generation Fareo LiDARs SCALA 1 and SCALA 2 have achieved autonomous driving in traffic congestion situations. The third-generation LiDAR SCALA 3 has significantly expanded the operational field of passenger cars with a wider range of applications and more advanced high-speed support. Valeo is also considered a leader in the field of autonomous taxi components, as SCALA 3's mass production utilizes high standards and mature technology to support customers in achieving the scale of autonomous taxis.

The Fareo SCALA 3 achieves real-time 3D imaging of the surrounding environment of cars through its LiDAR system, providing ultra-high resolution point cloud data for automotive systems. The resolution of SCALA 3 is over 12 million pixels per second (48 times that of SCALA 2), with a detection range of 200 meters for low reflectivity objects and 300 meters for high reflectivity objects. Objects that cannot be recognized by the naked eye can be seen.

In addition to hardware capabilities, the Valeo SCALA 3 is also equipped with a set of software modules, including perception and artificial intelligence based algorithms. Its LiDAR function ensures ultra-high security and reliability through congestion detection, rain and fog detection, online calibration, or misalignment detection. Compared to cameras and radar, it has higher detection performance and can recognize objects on black asphalt roads more than 150 meters ahead, such as tires. It can also recognize, classify, and track objects, providing a three-dimensional panoramic view of the surroundings for the automotive fusion system, thereby achieving autonomous driving. These software modules can be easily embedded into major system level chip (SoC) platforms and can also run on dedicated electronic control units (ECUs) or domain controllers.

The Valeo SCALA 3 LiDAR has also been nominated for the 2023 Automotive Supplier Outstanding Contribution Award (PACE Award) (the final results of this award will be announced in early 2024). Fareo's LiDAR technology has won the SafetyBEST Award in May 2023 and the "Hardware Solutions for Automotive Sensors of the Year" category award at the 2023 ICA Summit; Received the Outstanding Contribution Award from Automotive Suppliers in 2018; Received Frost&Sullivan Market Leadership Award in 2022.

The Fareo LiDAR is the only passenger car in Europe that has obtained L3 level authorization. In March 2023, the group announced that it had received orders worth over 1 billion euros for the Valeo SCALA 3 in the past 18 months. As the global leader in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Valeo is the first enterprise to achieve L3 level autonomous driving and mass produce LiDAR sensors and perception software, and still maintains a leading position today.

With the development of autonomous vehicle, the industry has recognized the importance of laser radar technology. As the first component supplier to introduce this technology into the automotive industry and achieve large-scale production, the award once again confirms Valeo's leadership position in this field. At the CES Consumer Electronics Exhibition held from January 8th to 12th, 2024, Valeo will showcase the award-winning SCALA 3 LiDAR at the booth and provide visitors with the first experience of artificial intelligence based perception software to understand how to classify objects detected by LiDAR in point cloud data.
