Printing and cutting are not aligned

I’m trying to cut a project 3 ft long - so using the print and cut feature. After I cut my first of the three parts (i broke the project up into 1 ft incriments) I go to align my laser with the registration marks; however, after i move my laser head to the mark and choose “set first target position”, i then frame the registration mark and the laser head moves away from the registration mark and frames in a different position. I tested this multiple times and can’t seem to get it to laser in the right area. Any ideas why it’s moving off the registration mark?
