Text has voids even in preview

Happens to all of us every now and again!
Most likely, you have Tabs turned on with a honkin’ big width.
Double-click the layer in the Cuts/Layers window over on the right, then set the Tabs switch off.
They’re useful for keeping cut shapes from falling down into the chip tray and for confusing folks who’ve never seen them in action before.
