RDWorksV8, The relationship between circumferential pulse and workpiece diameter in rotary engraving

roy

Procedure

1. Calibration:
Use a workpiece with a known circumference (e.g., diameter 31.84mm, circumference 100mm) for calibration.
Adjust the driver parameters or software settings so that when this workpiece completes exactly one full rotation, the controller outputs 36,000 pulses.
From this, calculate the system's fixed resolution: Rotary-specific step distance = 36,000 pulses / 100 mm = 360 pulses/mm.

2. Parameter Setup:
In the RDWorksV8 rotary engraving settings, select the "Rotary-specific step distance" or a similar mode.
In the "Pulses/Circumference" or "Pulses per mm" field, enter the fixed value obtained from calibration: 360.

3. Processing a New Workpiece:
When processing a workpiece with a new diameter (e.g., φ50mm), you only need to accurately enter the new value in the "Workpiece Diameter" field: 50.00 mm.
The system automatically performs the following internal calculations:
Workpiece Circumference = 50.00 × π ≈ 157.08 mm
Total Pulses Required = Circumference × Pulses per mm = 157.08 mm × 360 pulses/mm ≈ 56,549 pulses

You will observe that the same graphic is automatically scaled proportionally along the circumferential direction (rotary axis) to match the new circumference on workpieces of different diameters.

Important Reminders

1. Axis Working Area Length: When setting the "Working Area Length" for the rotary axis (usually the X-axis) in the software, you must ensure this value is greater than or equal to the current workpiece's circumference. Otherwise, the software may report an error or the graphic will not display completely.

2. Mode Selection: Ensure you have correctly selected the "Rotary-specific step distance" or "Pulses/mm" mode in the software, not the "Pulses per revolution" mode. The calculation logic for these two modes is completely different.

Operational Recommendations

1. For the initial setup, use a calibration rod with a circumference that is easy to calculate and measure for precise calibration.
2. Save this parameter configuration in RDWorksV8 (e.g., as "Rotary Axis Config 1").
3. Before starting a new workpiece, double-click to confirm that the "Workpiece Diameter" value has been updated according to the new workpiece.
